Best 4K Monitor for the Xbox Series X / Series S (Budget, Cheap, Gaming)

In this article, we’ll explain everything you need to know about the graphics output of the all-new Xbox Series X, and introduce you to the best 4k gaming monitors for the Xbox Series X / Series S , in case you’re planning to upgrade your gaming setup for your new console.

If you have an Xbox Series X and prefer to play on a gaming monitor rather than a TV, you’re spoiled for choice, especially if you’re looking for a high refresh rate.

There aren’t a huge number of high refresh rate 4K displays on the market today though, which means you might have to sacrifice resolution for a smoother gaming experience, most models at high refresh rate being currently in 1080p or 1440p resolution.

Luckily, the Series X handles all mainstream resolutions, so you don’t have to worry about compatibility. The bad news is that there aren’t many displays capable of delivering a satisfying HDR experience, and most only have too low brightness.

1. GIGABYTE M32U 32″ 144Hz 4K Gaming Monitor

GIGABYTE M32U 32 144Hz 4K Gaming Monitor

To play in 4K on the Xbox Series X, it’s hard to do better than the Gigabyte M32U. This best hdmi 2.1 gaming monitor features two HDMI 2.1 ports making it ideal for console gamers as it is 4K 120Hz compatible on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Response time is lightning fast at 120 as well as at 60 Hz, and the gaming experience is sublimated whatever the framerate. The input lag is also exceptional, and the screen is FreeSync compatible.

The brightness goes very high in SDR and reflections are well managed, so the experience remains comfortable in a well-lit room. The viewing angles, as with all IPS panels, are very wide, perfect for co-op play. The immersion is also at its peak due to the size of the screen. There is an HDR mode and the color range is very wide, but the maximum brightness leaves something to be desired in HDR so the rendering is not as good.

Like all IPS screens, the contrast isn’t great, so blacks are rather gray if the room is dark. The local dimming feature that’s supposed to fix it isn’t worth it. Still, it’s an excellent screen that will no doubt satisfy most Xbox Series X gamers, and GIGABYTE gaming monitors are also compatible with RTX 3090 Ti.

The Gigabyte M28U is another great 4K display for Xbox Series X/S. It’s a non-curved 28-inch model. Its large size and high resolution enhance in-game immersion, and are ideal for productivity and for different media. It’s an impressive display with HDMI 2.1 ports for 120fps 4K gaming on PS5, and we confirm that it handles that resolution with the console. Viewing angles are good, as is glare management, but its peak brightness is just decent, so it’s not the best option for very bright, sunny rooms.

Its response time at maximum refresh rate is incredible, and although it’s slower at 60Hz, it’s still excellent. It also has a black frame insertion feature that can be used with the VRR for perfect motion clarity. It manages a wide color gamut and is significantly brighter in HDR, enough to deliver a very decent HDR experience. The downside is the mediocre contrast ratio and the very poor local dimming, so the screen is not ideal for dark rooms.

It has a USB hub with three USB 3.0 ports and one USB-C. The latter is DisplayPort Alt Mode compatible with 15 W of power. Unfortunately, its latency is slightly higher at 60Hz than most screens, although that shouldn’t bother many people. It’s generally an excellent screen that should satisfy the majority.

2. LG 27GN950-B Ultragear Gaming Monitor

LG 27GN950-B Ultragear Gaming Monitor

Another great Xbox Series X/S monitor with 4K resolution we’ve tested is the LG 27GN950-B. It’s an excellent ultra-responsive and smooth 4K model for an outstanding gaming experience. It does have some limitations though, in that its 144Hz refresh rate is only possible via DisplayPort, which the Xbox Series X doesn’t have. This means that you will only be able to reach 60 fps in game, which is in fact more suitable for those who prefer to play in “Quality” mode.

It is right at the top of this list because of its exceptional response time. It’s fast with no overshoot, resulting in crystal clear images even in the fastest action scenes. Latency is incredibly low, and the display supports variable refresh rate technologies which helps reduce tearing effects. Its IPS panel offers significant viewing angles, so you can easily play in coop, which could be necessary because the stand does not really allow you to adjust the position of the screen. Unfortunately, the contrast ratio is low, so blacks look grayish, and so isn’t very suitable for low-light rooms.it has also supported by Radeon RX 6950 XT Monitor.

The HDR experience is generally decent. The color gamut is good, and the brightness sufficient for HDR content to be clean. It has local dimming functionality; which is unfortunately lit from the sides and gives a poor result. Two USB 3.0 ports are available for charging your devices, and a Picture-in-Picture mode lets you watch a movie or TV show while you game. Overall, while not able to take full advantage of all the benefits of the Xbox Series X, it’s a great display that should satisfy the majority of users.

3. ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQ 4K HDMI 2.1 Gaming Monitor

ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQ 4K HDMI 2.1 Gaming Monitor

ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQ is a high-performance monitor for  eSports  gamers, and has 1080p resolution with a screen size of 32 inches. It features an IPS panel with a refresh rate of 144Hz. The monitor comes with 4 USB 3.0 ports and 1 HDMI port, as well as built-in speakers.

This monitor is compatible with HDR (High Dynamic Range) content using HDR10, has a low input lag of ~10ms, and a response time of 1ms. The adaptive sync technology it uses is G-Sync which allows the display to match the frames per second output by the graphics cards to reduce screen tearing . The monitor also has ULMB(Ultra Low Motion Blur) which is another G-Sync alternative that uses a strobe backlight.

If you are looking for a good 4k monitor for gaming on Xbox Series X / S with high performance and picture quality, then this is the best choice on the market. It will satisfy most gamers’  needs with its features and capabilities  at an affordable price.  It provides  an excellent gaming experience and responsiveness with a fast response time of 4ms, which reduces ghosting and motion blur in fast moving images.

4. LG OLED C1 Series 55” 4k Smart TV

LG OLED C1 Series 55” 4k Smart TV

The best display for Xbox Series X for playing HDR games is the LG OLED55C1. This is a television that we tested as a screen, as it is sold as such. It offers unique features and performance that most screens don’t have, but it also has some flaws. This monitor doesn’t have a DisplayPort port, so if you want to play on PC, you’ll have to make do with an HDMI cable.

It has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, so it can display 4k games at up to 120 FPS from Xbox Series X. It supports VRR in the form of native FreeSync and VRR HMDI forum, it is also compatible with G-Sync technology. Motion is smooth thanks to its nearly infinite contrast and low input latency. OLED panels stand out for their near-infinite contrast, as they can turn off individual pixels for perfect black levels, making this TV a great choice for gaming in a dark place. It displays a wide color gamut and has high HDR brightness, enough to bring out the highlights.

Unfortunately, OLED screens risk permanent aging when exposed to static elements for long periods of time. This could be a problem if you only use it for your PC, but we don’t think it’s a problem for those who use it for varied content, such as gaming or with Xbox. If that’s not the case for you, this is the best Xbox Series X display we’ve tested.

5. Dell S2721QS 27 Inch 4K UHD Monitor

Dell S2721QS 27 Inch 4K UHD Monitor

The best budget Xbox Series X display we’ve tested is the Dell S2721QS. Designed primarily for office use, it offers impressive performance for its price, and is one of the few 4K models you can get for a small price. It is well-designed and ergonomic, making it easy to position for your exact needs.

It displays clear and sharp images due to its 4K resolution. Although it’s limited to 60Hz, that’s not an issue for most games, and it does support FreeSync to reduce tearing. It even has built-in speakers, so you won’t absolutely need to invest in dedicated speakers. It has decent response time and low latency, but no Black Frame Insertion feature to limit motion blur. Much like the LG 27GN950-B , it features wide viewing angles and is bright enough to combat reflections and glare. Your visibility should therefore not be impacted even in the brightest rooms.

Unfortunately, although it handles HDR10, the experience isn’t good. The contrast ratio is low, there’s no local dimming, and it’s not bright enough to make a noticeable difference. However, it is capable of displaying a large color gamut if you absolutely want to use HDR. If your budget is limited and you still want a reliable 4K display, check out this one.

All of these have a 27inch widescreen display with 2560x1440p resolution which makes them perfect for PC gaming, and all of them have a 5ms grey-to-grey response time, too.

However, the HP w2007 is slightly different in terms of design because it has one USB upstream port instead of two like this monitor does, which means you only get one bumper along the bottom.

The Acer XB271HU also has one upstream port, but it has G-Sync technology on top of having two USB 3.0 ports instead of four like the AOC U2790VQ for gaming.
